Arcelormittal posted a loss of 559 million yuan in the second quarter, narrowing sharply from a loss of 1.12 billion yuan in the first quarter, the data showed. Sales in the first half of the year were $25.82 billion, down 33% from a year earlier
Iron ore production: ArcelorMittal's own iron ore production in the second quarter was 13.5 million tons, down 6.3% from the previous quarter and 6.2% from the same period last year. The decline in production was mainly due to the outbreak.
Arcelormittal produced 27.9m tonnes of its own iron ore in the first half of 2020, down 0.5 per cent year on year.
Iron ore shipments: The company sold 9.2 million tons of iron ore at market prices in the second quarter, up 7% month-on-month and down 3% year-over-year.
Steel: In the second quarter, its crude steel output reached 14.4 million tons, down 31.7% from the previous quarter and 39.4% from the same period last year; In the first half of 2020, crude steel output reached 35.5 million tons, down 25.7% year on year.
Steel sales in the second quarter were 14.8 million tons, down 24% from the previous quarter and 35% from the same period last year. Total steel shipments in the first half of 2020 were 34.3 million tons, down 23% year-on-year.
