On November 27, 2019 (the first) global resources technology showcase 2019 was held in Perth, the capital of Western Australia, Australia. A number of large global enterprises, including BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto, FMG and other iron ore companies, as well as oil and gas companies such as shell, Inpex and mining machinery companies such as Carter, attended the conference. The meeting was organized by the government of Western Australia, focusing on the impact of innovation and advanced technology on the development of mining industry, as well as cutting-edge new technologies and new concepts that can change the development of mining industry. The conference attracted more than 1500 participants, including global mining upstream and downstream enterprises, universities and scholars.
The governor of Western Australia, the Hon. Mark McGowan, said in his opening speech that Western Australia welcomes relevant mining companies to come to Western Australia. He said that the application of advanced technology will give western Australia a leading edge in the field of global resources. At the same time, technological innovation and development will provide a broader employment platform and opportunities for Western Australia.
In an interview with Chinese reporters after the meeting, McGowan said that he is optimistic about China's future, not only because China keeps importing more than $50 billion resources products from the state every year, surpassing the import volume of other Australian States, but also because he believes that China's determination to develop its economy has not changed, even the political friction between China and Australia cannot change the strong economic and trade cooperation between the two sides InMomentum.
Mike Henry, BHP's chief executive designate, stressed the importance of technology in his keynote speech. He pointed out that technology will meet all the needs of improving security, productivity, efficiency, reducing costs and enhancing value. Technological change is also bringing major opportunities to BHP Billiton. "This will enable us to ensure the safety of our employees, reduce costs, improve reliability and capital efficiency, help us reduce the impact on the environment and will bring more satisfactory work." In his speech, Han murui introduced that in BHP's Innovation Center in Dongling, we can see everything achieved through technology. "This is BHP's testing center. This is our testing ground to provide new technologies. The new technologies born here are making BHP's operations more efficient." For example, BHP built an industrial "Internet of things" sensor gateway. This enables safe and reliable data collection from sensors on BHP mobile devices (e.g. trucks and vehicles) as well as fixed plant devices (e.g. drills and conveyors) to better monitor and improve operational efficiency.
