New Delhi: According to the World Steel Association, crude steel production in India fell by 61% in April to 3.13 million tons. The Indian government imposed a blockade on the country on March 25 to prevent the spread of a coronavirus pandemic that affects Indian steel production, demand and supply.
The World Steel Association (worldsteel) said in a report that the country produced 9.02 million tons of crude steel in the same month a year ago.
India ’s steel production in March fell by 14% to 8.65 million tons, compared with 10.04 million tons in March 2019.
Global steel production also fell by 13% to 137.09 million tons, compared with 157.67 million tons in April 2019.
Global industry agencies said: "Due to the continuing difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, many of the data for this month (April) may be revised as production volumes are updated next month.
The data shows that China has reported its first March output decline of 1.7% to 78.97 million tons for three consecutive months.
The report's data shows that the country has a considerable share of global production. In April, the country's steel production was 85.03 million tons, a slight increase of 0.2% compared with 84.87 million tons in the same period of 2019.
US crude steel production in April was 4.96 million tons, a 32% decrease from 7.35 million tons in the same period last year.
By April 2020, crude steel production in Japan had decreased by 23% to 6.61 million tons, compared with 8.64 million tons in April 2019.
South Korea produces 5.50 million tons of crude steel, down 8.4% from 6 tons in April 2019.
According to the International Iron and Steel Association, in the European Union, Germany estimates that crude steel production in April 2020 will be 3 million tons, down 10.7% from April 2019. Italian production fell by 30.7% to 1.35 million tons.
France estimates crude steel production in April 2020 was 0.80 million tons, a decrease of 37.9% from April 2019, while Spain produced 0.67 million tons of crude steel in April 2020, a decrease of 48% from April 2019.
Russia estimates that by April 2020, crude steel production will be 4.70 million tons, Ukraine will be 1.33 million tons, and Brazil will be 1.81 million tons.
Turkey stated that its crude steel production in April 2020 was 2.24 million tons
