Anti-dumping Duty

The Ministry of Commerce of Thailand has announced that it will impose a final anti-dumping duty on hot-dip galvanized steel imported from China. The final tariffs imposed on specific steelmakers are lower than the initial tariffs imposed in 2020 and cancelled earlier this year.

The tariff is for 28 product series imported from China, with HS codes 7210491, 7210499, 7212301 and 7225929. Imported products with a thickness of 2.3mm and above, as well as products used in the manufacture of auto parts and white goods, can be exempted. Thailand began to impose a 35.67% initial tariff in August 2020, but it was cancelled in June 2021. The new tariffs (see table) will take effect from September 7th for a period of 5 years.

From January to July, Thailand imported only 73,845 tons of such products from China, a year-on-year decrease of 91.9%. The share of Chinese products in Thailand's total imports of such products fell from more than 79% a year ago to about 22% in January-July 2021.
