What is ERW steel pipes?

Electric resistance welded (ERW) is made of steel coil, and the weld is parallel to the pipe. The width of the coil is the same as the circumference of the pipe, so the diameter is limited to 24 inch. However, due to the fast manufacturing process, it is very suitable for mass production of small (≤24 inch) diameter parts.

Manufacturing Process

The manufacturing method of ERW pipe is to cold form the flat steel strip into a round pipe and pass through a series of forming rollers to obtain a longitudinal seam. Then, the two edges are heated by high-frequency current at the same time and squeezed together to produce bonding. ERW longitudinal seam does not need filler metal, and impurities in heat affected zone are extruded during welding.

A few advantages to note with ERW pipe:

●Molten metal is not used in the manufacturing process. This means that the pipe is very strong and durable.

●Welds are invisible or imperceptible. This is a major difference when looking at the double submerged arc welding process. Double submerged arc welding will produce an obvious weld bead, which may need to be eliminated.

●With the progress of high-frequency current of welding, this process is much easier and safer.
